Moen 90410BN Tub and Shower Drain Cover, Brushed Nickel
Moen bath tub drains.
With so many on offer these days, it is great to have a name you can trust. This item is certainly that and will be a perfect buy. The distributor have added some great touches and this equals great value.

Great Quality...Poor Instructions
Moen has very good quality products and I am not writing with concerns about product quality, but they could improve greatly on the instructions that come with the product. Instructions included are a single page of illustrations with a limited amount of text written in 3 languages. The instructions show using a container of some sealant (appears to be plumbers putty). I had good quality plumbers putty and used a good amount but developed a leak a couple of days after installation at the tub drain leaking into my basement. I called the Moen help line and they admitted that use of a good quality bathroom silicone would be the very best for the application, but plumbers putty could be used. I received "help" from a young woman that I believe has had not experience with plumbing what so ever and the suggestion was of little value. She suggested to fill the tub with some water, sprinkle some pepper on the water and check to see where it migrated to so they would have a better idea...

Great
I got this for the brass tubing which holds up forever.

The bronze is solid, but bronze, unlike brass, will oxidize over time.

Definitely use plumbers putty for drains. That's why it's called "plumbers" putty. Make sure it's fresh putty. Using stuff provided is always a bad idea, you don't know how long it has been sitting around drying out. You want to apply it liberally, then screw down the drain until it squishes out. Then screw it down more and more until you just have a hair-line bead of putty.

Whatever you do, make dang sure it doesn't leak before you close up the interior space. And if you're conscientious, make an access panel so the next person who owns the property, or yourself, can get to it if there's a problem. It's always a good idea to vent interior walls where there is plumbing too. Condensation can form on warm pipes if the air is cool, and then it can drip onto drywall and make black mold.

Hope that helps.

I renovated my main bathroom in my house and used this product for the tub drain. I hate using a drain plug because they never hold the water. This set up works great and is all brass. Installation and adjustment was easy... Highly recommend....
