Did the trick
Used along with a 18 inch breaker bar to remove a couple of stubborn and corroded 15 year old tub drains. It took a little manipulating to get it to grip the inside surface of the drain opening but once it did, it held securely as I slowly unscrewed the flange from the shoe. Didn't work as well to install the new drain since there is only the one short tip at the bottom to push against the crossbars in the flange and it is kind of wobbly as you screw it in. The tool seems to be sturdy and should last a long time (as it should for the price). I have 4 tubs in my house and will get my money's worth out of this thing. If you only think you will use it once, you may not feel it is worth it.

Right tool for the job
I was afraid I would have to call a plumber when I couldn't extract my broken and corroded tub drain with any of the tricks other DIY repairmen had posted. I came across a couple of people that recommended this, and I decided the price was worth a try (not nearly as expensive as the average plumber call). With this tool, my standard 3/8 socket wrench, and a pair of vise grips attached to the wrench for extra leverage, I had the old drain out in 2 minutes. Even used the tool in reverse to install the new drain.
